Lim Guan Eng meludah ke langit

FMT - Najib edits Guan Eng’s statement on toll rates to show ‘U-turn’:

Lim Guan Eng’s statement, edited by Najib Razak to show the DAP leader’s about-turn on compensating toll companies
.

PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Najib Razak today tweaked a four-year-old statement by Lim Guan Eng hitting out at the previous government’s decision to compensate highway concessionaires for freezing toll hikes.

This comes after Lim, the finance minister, announced that Putrajaya would pay some RM1 billion to concessionaires to compensate them for the government’s refusal to allow increase in toll rates involving 21 highways nationwide.

Najib said he had never allowed a hike in toll rates throughout his nine-year administration, and this had forced the government then to compensate highway operators annually.

“And every year that the BN government pay the compensation, DAP accused me of wanting to enrich the wealthy crony toll concessionaires,” Najib wrote in a Facebook posting, accompanied by a screenshot of Lim’s statement in February 2014 showing several passages edited to reflect the latest round of compensation announced by the Pakatan Harapan government.

“Today, PH is proud with their decision to pay RM1 billion compensation to maintain toll rates next year.

“Interestingly, the finance minister is from DAP, the same party that has made it an annual affair to bash me,” said Najib.

Yesterday, Lim announced that close to a billion ringgit would be spent to freeze toll hikes in 21 highways nationwide, including to allow motorcyclists free access to the two Penang bridges and the Second Link in Johor.

“The comprehensive toll hike freeze is an ongoing effort by the Pakatan Harapan-led federal government to alleviate the burden of rising living costs borne by all Malaysians,” said Lim.

Najib today said most toll concessions were approved by “that former PM”.

“In fact, the BN government under me fully acquired PLUS in 2011 with Khazanah owning 51% and EPF 49%. Yes, EPF, to benefit contributors,” he said, referring to the Employees Provident Fund.

Najib said the only exception was in 2015 when toll rates for highways not under PLUS, the country’s largest highway concessionaire, were increased.

He said the increase was at a time the government faced a cash crunch due to the sharp fall in oil prices.

Seafield Indian Temple - Is "New" Malaysia condoning disobedience to Court ruling?

The Malay-Muslims of all sectors including some Pakatan Harapan racists (eg. Pribumi Party) are out to get Waythamoorthy for his much-criticised part in the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple riots and also in the associated tragic death of an innocent and public-service dedicated fireman, Muhammad Adib.

Whether Waytha deserves those condemnations of his role, utterance, action or non-action remains to be debated. But I once again refer to my previous post (23 Dec 18) Seafield temple - my take in which I opined (selected extracts):

Deep within the heart of the riots at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple, lies the original cause of the turmoil that eventually resulted in the tragic death of fireman Muhammad Adib.

T'was the factional battle between two rival Hindu groups, one of which is supposedly the authorised-legal group representing the temple and another group opposed to the decisions of the (former) authorised group, namely to re-locate
.

The authorised group headed by (as reported in FMT) K Chellappa, has on 11 March 2014 agreed to a re-location with approval by the Shah Alam High Court, the Selangor State Government, One City Development, and to return the vacant site to the owner.

However, another temple faction headed by (as reported by FMT) Nagaraju, who also claimed to be the temple’s administrator, opposed that re-location. The faction insisted that the temple should remain in its present location.

As part of the consent judgment, One City agreed to donate RM1.5 million for the construction of a new temple on one of two plots of land given by the company. After the temple gave up the rights to one of the two plots of land, One City gave it another RM1 million in compensation.

That was the lawful, legal and proper course of action to be taken, where it would have been a win-win-win situation for the 3 involved parties of the Temple, Developer and State government, with the mutual consent approved by the court.

Yet by unruliness and the tragic consequences of a rioting, the pro-Stay faction has won the day. I recall very distinctively that PM Mahathir said the law must be adhered to.

But the end result has gone the other way, where now the temple will NOT be re-located, despite and in spite of a court consent ruling.
Is this going to be the norm, that if we don't like the law, we get our way through unruliness?

Yesterday FMT published In defence of Syed Saddiq, Waytha’s head must roll; selected extracts follow:

The mayhem could have been avoided. The temple’s management should have settled the dispute among themselves and abided by the court’s settlement.

It was a win-win situation where more than one-acre of land was allocated for the temple to be relocated apart from 1.5 million by the developer, One City Development.

But when they refused to relocate despite taking the money and the land, and to abide by the court’s decision, it was a recipe for a commotion or rather a pandemonium
.

The above words parallel mine in my post Seafield temple - my take written 2 days earlier, though as I've written, I am not blaming Waytha for the riots or ensuing tragic fracas as yet.

Leaving the blame-game against Waytha aside, even Dr Ramasamy (DCM II Penang) agrees, stating (in FMT): It is true that if all the parties, including the temple authorities, adhered to the court settlement, the fracas could have been avoided.

But in his eagerness to defend Waytha and what happened to the temple riots and re-location after the death of poor Adib, he spoiled his above words by adding:

But the point is why the temple, which was promised a piece of land by the previous government, had to be relocated?

Why the temple had to be re-located???

Hello there my dear Dr Rama, have you read the narrative on the temple's re-location as approved the High Court in 2014? Let me re-iterate what is known, to wit:

The authorised group headed by (as reported in FMT) K Chellappa, has on 11 March 2014 agreed to a re-location with approval by the Shah Alam High Court, the Selangor State Government, One City Development, and to return the vacant site to the owner.

I had also written that another temple faction, the unauthorised faction (unauthorised and a vexatious ligigator as determined by the court) opposed that agreed re-location. The faction insisted odurately that the temple should remain in its present location.

Is Dr Rama arguing that the UNauthorised faction has been correct in its refusal to adhere to a legal Court, temple, developer and state government agreement to relocate?

Why ask such a STUPID question like 'Why the temple had to be re-located'???

Muhammad Adib would have been alive today to marry his fiance if the UNauthorised faction had not stubbornly dug their heels in against a legal and Court sanction re-location, which subsequent actions snowballed the consequences into a tragedy?

Forget about Waytha and how much blame he has to bear? It's actually the refusal of an UNauthorised temple faction and its rebellious illegal objection to an agreement among the Temple, State, Developer, all overseen by the High Court, that has been the root cause.

Why is Dr Ramasamy supporting unruliness of the UNauthorised illegal pro-Stay faction? You are no longer in the Opposition but as part of the ruling Pakatan government of the day.

I also recall very distinctively that PM Mahathir said the law must be adhered to. Why wasn't it in the case of the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple?

It is wrong, unjust and legally-disgusting that the so-called "New" Malaysia is condoning disobedience to Court ruling and allowing the temple to NOT re-locate.

Yes, all that despite and in spite of a court consent ruling. This is DOUBLE INJUSTICE.

Is this going to be the norm in "New" Malaysia, that if we don't like the law, we get our way through unruliness?

Lim KS ignores "To every thing there is a season"

MM Online - Kit Siang: No less a Muslim in giving festive greetings to Christians (extracts):

Lim Kit Siang takes the view that discouraging Muslims from wishing Christmas greetings went against the teachings of Islam

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 25 — DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang today said discouraging Muslims from wishing Christmas greetings went against the teachings of Islam.

While calling upon Malaysians to turn the country into one of the world's foremost nations for interfaith dialogue, understanding and tolerance, he criticised the view of PAS Youth leader Mohamad Khalil Abdul Hadi who yesterday warned Muslims not to celebrate Christmas.

“It is a primitive view which is alien to the Constitution, the Rukunegara and all the precepts to unite multiracial, multilingual, multi religious and multicultural Malaysia,” Lim said in a statement.

Lim said when notable figures such as Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim extended their Christmas greetings to the rakyat, it did not make them become less of a Muslim as a result of such greetings to Christians
.

Sometimes Ah Pek should just keep his mouth shut instead of voicing his non-Muslim views on Islam to annoy especially the Muslims.

If he knows that their Majesties of Johor, PM Mahathir, his daughter Marina, Anwar and wife, and even PAS sec-gen Takiyuddin Hassan have all wished Merry Christmas to Christians, then what further need is there for a Chinese, already despised and targetted by PAS and UMNO, to butt in to sermonise to Muslims on the tenets of Islam?

PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan has sent out festive greetings to all Malaysians in conjunction with Christmas.

"I wish a Merry Christmas to all Malaysians who celebrate it, may we all be in peace and harmony in our beloved country.

"A large number of my classmates at the Universiti Malaya law faculty are non-Muslims, we are still friendly to this day as a family, and frequently contact each other and meet for reunions.

"Differences of opinion are a blessing in Islam," Takiyuddin said in a statement on Tuesday (Dec 25)

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 (KJV) tells us:

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace
.

Well, obviously Lim KS was out of sync with Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 (KJV), opening his blardy BIG mouth when there was NOT such a need, and when his sermonisation to Muslims on Islamic virtues especially in the current climate would produce adverse results, by making Muslims dislike Christian greetings and festivals even more.

Yet when his voice was needed, for example, when Mahathir announced his intention to re-build the 'crooked bridge', create National Car No 3, taxi-sapu-ing of UMNO frogs into PRIBUMI Party, Lim KS would by contrast be Silent as a Laampah-less Lamb.

Pakatan Harapan's betrayal of its voters

Malaysiakini - YOURSAY - This is not the Harapan we wanted:

‘We hoped too much and they delivered too little.’

The Harapan gov't is failing - and we need to focus on that

The Wakandan: This subject has been flogged to death in Malaysiakini but yes, it needs to be repeated, and yes, Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh, you are right.

The increased price of eggs perhaps is a good place to start. Of course, nobody is saying that because of the eggs, we’re going to the dogs. It is what we see today, and it is not good. In other words, it is not the Pakatan Harapan that we wanted.

Why the hell has the old DNA of Umno and BN started to become the image of Harapan? You know what we mean; looking at Harapan now is like looking at the previous BN where things were seen through the lens of racial and religious bigotry.

The cause is obvious – when we begin to accommodate Umno and its politics, everything else will fall into its place. In other words, we have become Umno but in name.

If the price of the eggs is not contained and if we are into a second stage of inflation, the people may not be too kind and patient with Harapan.

Maybe the media can help us by highlighting the good work of people like Energy, Technology, Science, Climate Change and Environment Minister Yeo Bee Yin, who seems to be the one quietly busy with her job. The people need something to cheer them up.

Jasmine: It’s all about personal and private agendas. Not about the people’s future. That so-called agenda for the people in the form of the grand manifesto went out the window even before the citizens had any whiff of what it was.

Being a government now run by personal and hidden agendas, it has become one of divide and rule.

Not a far cry from the immediate past.

The race card especially is frequently used - no, abused - by the greatest Machiavellian in the cabinet to cast aside any genuine efforts at reforms promised.

The fact that Merdeka Centre statistics reveal that only about 30 percent of the Malay electorate supported Harapan in GE14 has become an elaborate and useful weapon against those clamouring for the promised changes. Fear-mongering is now official propaganda.

That attitude is not leadership but cowardice, in fact more so devious and calculative to disguise the real intentions of one man and his party.

With PKR having reached a high degree of shambles and infighting, DAP silenced by the fear of the race and religious stigma constantly thrown at it, it’s all about a smaller race-based party controlling the cabinet and the government. Doesn’t it sound and smell familiar?

Worse is the fact that previously the Umno government could justify its race and religious-based policies merely by flaunting its numbers in elected representatives, but now Bersatu?

I think Malaysians have been taken for a ride. So far that’s how one feels.

Drngsc: We hoped too much and they delivered too little. They would rather play politics than take care of the people.

I must say that much blame must be put on Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Harapan without him may have done better.

His choice of cabinet (all politics), his announcement on the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (Icerd) (all politics), his willingness to accept frogs (all politics), his severe pursuit of the "Malay agenda" at the neglect of the "new Malaysia" agenda, must certainly be major contributors towards a failing Harapan government.

We expected a new dawn for a new Malaysia, and what we are getting is Umno 2.0. What is happening?

Salvage Malaysia: The Harapan presidential council needs to be vocal and stop Mahathir’s toxic politics. Whilst it’s very effective, it destroys many things along the way.

And where do you think the Umno leaders learnt the way of politics? Who was the master of all this?

Granted, the out-of-control kleptocracy and rampant corruption eventually destroyed Umno. But blind loyalty, an iron-fist leadership where you should not question the president, et cetera - where do you think all these came from?

Mahathir has done his part to clean out the previous regime but seriously, it’s time to start planning handing it to Anwar, as promised. We voted based on that promise.

Unspin: Considering that we inherited a messy set of accounts from Najib's government, it would take two to three years before we can right the ship.

I think the biggest weakness of the fledging Harapan government is not that they are unable to deliver on the economic front, but more of poor communication skills.

For instance, the price of eggs went up recently not because of bad management but due to bird flu that affected the poultry industry.

Another example is Icerd. Instead of educating the public first, we went ahead to try to ratify it without calculating the impact it had on the Malays. And that is not even talking about the foot-in-the-mouth education minister.

Anonymous #33227154: We need a government who is sincere in reforming Malaysia against corruption, racism and religious extremism, maintaining the rule of law, saving our economy and helping the people to have a better life.

We don't want a government which is only interested in expanding its power base and winning elections only.

After winning, it's time for Mahathir and the Harapan government to focus on doing the right things for the country and people instead of wasting time playing political games with Umno defectors.

Bersatu should not take advantage and use Harapan to expand its power base. Mahathir should not repeat his past mistakes.

Quo Vadis: Yesterday I had to pay RM20 for a medical item for which I had paid RM12.80 just a month ago. I was told that it was the new price, I could take it or leave it. Fair enough.

You mention that eggs have gone up in price. Pray, tell me, sir, what has not gone up in price these last few months?

What has gone down most certainly is the faith that getting rid of the corrupt, lawless BN government would inaugurate a clean, transparent, moral government with integrity, with the interest of the people at heart.

No, sir, see how mistaken we have been, how our hopes are mocked, how our trust betrayed. Our hopes deflated, devastated, we say sadly "Oh, no, yet again".

You see frogs today occupying the centre stage of discourse, getting set to rule in the day, not very different from holding court in the darkness of the night erstwhile.

“Thank you for your vote but to hell with you. I have my own plans,” says it all succinctly, in a nutshell.

Seafield temple - my take

Deep within the heart of the riots at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple, lies the original cause of the turmoil that eventually resulted in the tragic death of fireman Muhammad Adib.

T'was the factional battle between two rival Hindu groups, one of which is supposedly the authorised-legal group representing the temple and another group opposed to the decisions of the (former) authorised group, namely to re-locate.

The authorised group headed by (as reported in FMT) K Chellappa, has on 11 March 2014 agreed to a re-location with approval by the Shah Alam High Court, the Selangor State Government, One City Development, and to return the vacant site to the owner.

FMT reported that as part of the consent judgment, One City Development agreed to donate RM1.5 million for the construction of a new temple on one of two plots of land given by the company. After the temple gave up the rights to one of the two plots of land, One City Development gave it another RM1 million in compensation.

K. Chellappa

FMT also reported: Chellappa said the temple was advised that Land A was not suitable for its new site, as it was situated on a piece of land for the construction of a highway interchange.

As such, he said the temple waived its rights to Land A to One City which paid it an additional RM1 million, and opted to move to Land B.

Chellappa said the facts of the dispute were clear, and hoped there would be no more misunderstanding.

“In the meantime, we will not be issuing any more media statements as the AG looks into the matter.”

However, another temple faction headed by (as reported by FMT) Nagaraju, who also claimed to be the temple’s administrator, opposed that re-location. The faction insisted that the temple should remain in its present location.

Despite Chellappa being declared the rightful administrator in a separate case, the unhappy alternative faction caused the delay in re-location since 2014 through protracted litigation to seize control of the temple administration, thus the legally recognised administrator of the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman was unable to take possession of the temple to effect the re-location.

Indeed, the numerous protracted litigations by the alternative unhappy faction was subsequently declared a vexatious litigant in matters concerning the temple.

MM Online reported on 29 Nov 2018: ... the High Court on July 25, 2014 declared that Nagaraju was not validly possessing and managing the temple since 2001.

The court also ordered that Nagaraju immediately hand over possession of the temple to Chellappa and the temple management committee elected in 2000/2002, and also issued a mandatory injunction on Nagaraju and all his agents or group to immediately hand over the temple to Chellappa upon receiving the court order.

Chellappa said Nagaraju did not appeal against the 2014 consent judgment or the 2014 decision that declared Chellappa as legally being the temple’s administrator.

As would have it, in recent times (2018) FMT reported that a group reportedly intruded into the temple causing a fracas in which several people were injured, the temple damaged and vehicles torched. This group was suspected to be friendly to the Developer.

That unruly event provoked temple devotees into rallying to the temple grounds to defend the holy abode of Sri Maha Mariamman. This faction turned ugly as some protesters torched a vehicle and then dragged a fireman out from his arriving vehcle and attacked him mortally. That hapless fireman was the late Muhammad Adib. Some rioters were reported to also vandalised the office of the developer nearby.

Apart from a horrendous undeserved death of a public service-oriented innocent fireman, what has been disappointing in the affair has been the victory for the pro-Stay faction, which was illegal in its obdurate stance right from the start.

As mentioned (reported by FMT), four parties, through a consent judgment on March 11, 2014 at the Shah Alam High Court, agreed to the relocation of the temple and to return the vacant site to the owner.

The four parties are the state government, One City and Chellappa and Nagaraju, who both claim to be the temple’s administrator, before Chellappa was eventually declared the rightful administrator in a separate case.

As part of the consent judgment, One City agreed to donate RM1.5 million for the construction of a new temple on one of two plots of land given by the company. After the temple gave up the rights to one of the two plots of land, One City gave it another RM1 million in compensation
.

On top of which, the historical pedigree of the temple is in doubt, as to whether it is over a century old or merely 44 years old?

ROOTS by Kun Tah & Kin Teh

MM Online - Has Lim Guan Eng forgotten his roots? by Tan Teik Cheng:

DECEMBER 21 — Has Lim Guan Eng forgotten his roots? He only dares to utter ‘don’t make it racial’ before Chinese community, but not before Tun Mahathir and the Malays.

In order to retaliate against MCA, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng has lost his rationality, and even fell into an incoherent situation. From Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) to Koperasi Jayadiri Malaysia Bhd (KOJADI), Lim Guan Eng continues to lambast MCA.

However, Lim Guan Eng repeatedly utters the so-called "don’t make it racial" and "no politicisation" before MCA and the Chinese community right from the beginning till now. But the same set of theories and principles were never conveyed to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir, the PPBM President and the Malay community.

When the government reduced the allocation for development purpose for TAR UC to RM30 million from RM60 million, Lim Guan Eng said that there is a need to separate politics and education and that the TAR UC funding issue should not be politicised. When the government cancelled the RM50 million allocation for Chinese Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and transferred it to the BSN management after persistent questioning by MCA, as well as the needs to separate political and business, he said that the allocation to Chinese SMEs should not be made into a racial issue.

However:

When Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir said that “the Chinese are rich”, and that the government needs to support Bumiputeras with affirmative actions, Lim Guan Eng dared not ask the Prime Minister “to not make it a racial issue” nor “not to politicise”;

When the government organised the "Future of the Bumiputera Congress" for a single ethnic group, Lim Guan Eng did not protest against the government, nor said, “don’t make it a racial issue” but said "no politicisation". Instead, he endorsed the government by saying "what is wrong with holding the Bumiputera Congress?

When the government insisted on promoting the third national car, and the Entrepreneur Development Minstry also claimed that the development of domestically produced cars was to improve the Bumiputera’s economy. Neither did Lim Guan Eng dared say "do not make it a racial issue" and "no politicisation’’.

Lim Guan Eng did not cancel the allocation for Majlis Rakyat Malaysia (Mara) using the same logic of “do not make it a racial issue” and “no politicisation”. Instead, he was eager to announce that the allocation was not reduced.

can or not, 'Tuk?

Lim Guan Eng has allocated a special grant of RM77 million to assist the Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) in light of its cash flow problems. The beneficiaries were mainly Bumiputeras. However, Lim Guan Eng did not say “don’t make it a racial issue” and “no politicisation” on the matter.

I am grateful that Lim Guan Eng does not consider himself as a Chinese, because if he says that he is a Chinese, he would be selling out the Chinese and pleasing another community. I will be ashamed of him!

Waytha as unifying minister

FMT - Stop the anti-Waytha bandwagon, says Ramasamy (extracts):

poor Waytha

Calls for Waytha to resign grew louder after the death of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, some two weeks after he was assaulted by a mob outside the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple.

Waytha and several ministers had been criticised by leaders from both sides of the divide for accusing the police of inaction when the temple was attacked by another mob a day earlier.

[Dr] Ramasamy said Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had already stated that he was happy with Waytha’s performance.

Dr Ramasamy - DCM II Penang

“If Mahathir is satisfied with the work of Wathya Moorthy, then why is Kadir [Jasin] butting in to say that the latter is a burden to Mahathir?” asked Ramasamy.

Kadir Jasin

“Why all these attacks against Wathya Moorthy? Is it because he is the head of Hindraf, or because he was appointed and could be easily removed or because he belongs a to a numerically small segment of the Malaysian society?”

Ramasamy said he was prepared to talk to Kadir on the issue.

“I might not agree with him on certain issues, but I still respect him for his experience and insights into the various aspects of our society.

Kadir Jasin or Pak Kadir as I respectfully address him, much as he dislikes Chinese as his Boss does, wakakaka, is known to be the media spokesperson for Pribumi Party, official or unofficially. His close relationship with Mahathir stems back aeons ago, even in early UMNO days.

Though Dr Ramasamy has correctly said Mahathir had already stated that he was happy with Waytha’s performance and it was his PM's prerogative to decide whether Waytha goes or not, there are two possible reasons for Pak Kadir to allude to Waytha being a burden to Mahathir.

One - Mahathir wants Pak Kadir to say so, to become the 'villain' in the unhappy divorce. Many bosses likes to work this way, avoiding the nasties whilst assigning the dirty work to one of the 'minders'.

Two - Pak Kadir wants to play protector for the Boss, roling himself as timely interference to safeguard the Boss' Malay-ness.

As I mentioned in my previous post "Calm" before the storm Waytha has unwittingly become the surrogate target for Malay anger that had been incinerated following fireman Adib's innocent death in a mob attack against the fireman at the Seafield Indian temple.

Poor Waytha, alas, has NOT been brilliant at all in this civil-social-religious catastrophe. His words have now been blamed for the ensuing riots.

As I had pointed out, the blame for the sad ruckus (not the murder per se) was started by recalcitrant members of one faction of the temple authorities who obdurately refused to move despite a 2014 court order, a provided subtituted piece of land for a new temple, and huge monetary compensation in the millions.

The unhappy faction caused the delay since 2014 through protracted litigation to seize control of the temple administration, and the legally recognised administrator of the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman was unable to take possession of the temple to effect the re-location.

Indeed, the numerous protracted litigations by the unhappy faction was subsequently declared a vexatious litigant in matters concerning the temple.

So poor Waytha was caught between the rival temple factions, though as mentioned in previous post, many suspect he was more than a willing captive as his words and actions were, to say the least, confusing and perplexing.

There are a large number of unhappy Malays against him as Minister of National Unity, and as Khairy Jamaluddin sarcastically put it, Waytha should NOT be asked to go as he has become a wonderful asset to UMNO, where as Unity Minister he (Waytha) has 'united' Malays into demanding he leaves.

In the meantime, the police said they'll be releasing the full forensic investigation report into the fireman's death in a few days. That may buy for Waytha a few more days. I wonder whether he will last till then.

"Calm" before the storm

MM Online - Malay confidence in Pakatan hinges on pace of action after fireman’s death (extracts):

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 21 — Pakatan Harapan must speed up investigations and prosecution if it is to stem the slide in Malay support following the death of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, analysts have said.

Though Adib’s death was not due to an interracial clash, those polled have noted the burning anger within the Malay demographic group towards certain ethnic Indian lawmakers from the ruling coalition whose initials remarks suggested one.

“It might create uncertainty if no immediate action is taken,” Sivamurugan Pandian from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) told Malay Mail.

Already, a coalition of Muslim organisations known as Gerakan Pembela Ummah are calling for a #Justice4Adib solidarity rally outside Masjid Putra in Putrajaya after Friday prayers today — which was also the date the slain fireman was to wed his fiancee Nurul Najihah Mohd Radzi.

The same Muslim coalition demanded the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government rescind its moratorium[a] on the death penalty 24 hours after Adib’s death so it can be used on those convicted of his murder.

Ummah is also clamouring for the removal of the PH ministers from government and the use of the Sedition Act against them. It will march to deliver its memorandum to the Prime Minister’s Office.

Sivamurugan said the government cannot afford to be seen to delay justice, even if it wanted to ensure the rule of law is applied properly.

With the public restive, continued calls for calm from those in positions of power have had the opposite effect.

“Many irresponsible parties were involved. All should be prosecuted without delay so that it does not create crisis of confidence towards the authorities,” the USM political sociology professor said.

Datuk Agus Yusoff of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) said whether or not PH suffers a Malay backlash hinges on the actions of its leaders in the next few days.

“But the problem is they have been issuing unwise statements like ‘keep calm’,” the associate professor of UKM’s history, politics, and strategy school said.

“What their leaders should say is ‘we promise stern action and heavy punishment to all those found guilty, and swift justice will be delivered’.

“How can you tell people to keep calm when they are angry? It’s a stupid thing to say,” he added
.

Indeed, as I wrote in my post Words that annoy!:

I had stated this, my bêtes noire (bugbear), in my Facebook some weeks ago because I was highly riled whenever I read of the word within a certain context - no, not as in 'a calm sea' or 'the calm before the storm' etc.

The annoying 'certain' context would be when (and regrettably just too often) we have politicians or so-called national leaders (from both sides of the political fence) advising us to 'remain calm', even in situations which didn't trouble us in the least.

And if we were to be in situations which trouble us greatly, just how the hell would we be able to 'remain calm' when we would in all probability be anxious, worried and perhaps even sh*t-scared?

Thus such advice would be useless and worse, rather patronizing, as if we are budak-budak kecil to be calmed (f**k) ... er ... I mean ... soothed.

Sadly the undeniable mob-murder of Muhammad Adib has been more tragic because the late fireman was an emergency first-responder who had rushed to the dire scene with his mates to HELP the public but t'was some (already-identified) members of the public who slaughtered him.

As Penang Hokkiens would say "Choe hoe sim, haw lui chim", which translates into "The Samaritan is struck by lightning during his compassionate duties".

It didn't matter he was a Malay but alas, to make a tragic matter even worse, he was. Thus there prevails this immense sense of injustice amongst the Malay community, made much worse by some religious leaders calling for an 'eye-for-an-eye'. The  general community is seething with fury.

Nonethless, the government must not falter as a result of populist considerations into, as demanded by some ultra groups, rescinding its moratorium[a] on the death penalty. That will be even more tragic.

Much as I may be condemned, I have to tell it as we all saw it happened, namely, that it's also not true Adib’s death was not due to an interracial clash.

The temple tragedy unfolded with no doubt a suspected commecial-interested attack on the holy building but which unfortunately developed into a religious-racial clash a la the notorious Kerling incident decades ago, where pious but mindless religiously fanatical defenders saw the overriding need to defend the abode of the Goddess. Alas, Muhammad Adib was the totally-innocent victim of this religious-racial clash.

Now the surrogate target for Malay anger has centred on poor Waythamoorthy, who alas has NOT been brilliant at all in this civil-social-religious catastrophe.

For a start, the blame for the sad ruckus (not the murder per se) was started by recalcitrant members of one faction of the temple authorities who obdurately refused to move despite a 2014 court order, a provided subtituted piece of land for a new temple, and huge monetary compensation in the millions. The challenging chant should be "Apa lagi Hindu dari kuil Seafield mahu?"

Yes, poor Waytha was caught between the rival temple factions, though many suspect he was more than a willing captive as his words and actions were, to say the least, confusing and perplexing.

The much aggrieved Hindu Indians have been harbouring humongous grievance and resentment over serial temple demolitions throughout the years, so much so that Waytha, ironically the Minister for National Unity, had publicly lamented the wanton destruction of 10,000 Hindu temples.

10,000 Hindu temples conjured up images of a virtual township of Hindu temples a la the Angkor Wat-Angkor Thom complex, when in reality, we know from our personal knowledge that most of these 10,000 so-called temples had been very small-Lilliputan shrines beneath trees or besides rocks that couldn't even have accommodated the presence of a adult human being standing inside each of them.

Those Lilliputan shrines had sprung up like wild mushrooms after a storm, thus their demolition should not be seen in the same light as a hypothetical demolition of a Batu-Cve-type temple

The hyperbole of "10,000 temples" was not helpful to calming the average already much-aggrieved Hindu.

Whatever it was, the current situation has developed to its now tinder dry status, with very angry (and in some cases, provoked) Malays waiting impatiently to avenge Muhammad Adib.

The government must no longer drag its feet and should act firmly in bringing those responsible to due justice for dragging fireman Adib out of his fire truck and beating him to his eventual death. Justice seen is at least justice done in the eyes of the angry.

As they say in law, "Speed is of the essence".
