To ABU or not to ABU?

PKR deputy president Azmin Ali has claimed that he is not as wealthy as stated by blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin, who claimed to hold leaked investigation papers
However, Azmin refused to elaborate on the specific claims in the investigation papers, saying he does not want to be “dragged” into defending a 17-year-old allegation.

Hmmm, I wonder about two issues, namely, why doesn't Azmin Ali sue the hell out of RPK? Is he indirectly admitting RPK's revelation has been true, and ...

... how one defines 'rich'?

On the 2nd question, if we read another of MKINI's article Buttmen: We're not Umno stooges, the Head (excuse the pun wakakaka) Buttman, Mohd Ali Baharom who was once a mere Private in the Royal Malay Regiment had admitted to paying RM1 million for a Datukship which he doesn't use now. Would he be considered 'rich'? ...

... which incidentally raises another question, about the value of the Datukship! But let's leave this separate issue out in this post.

Then, the pseudo Crown Prince said, referring to Kalsom Taib's book ‘The Shafee Yahya Story: Estate Boy to ACA Chief’, that the prosecution decided not to press charges.

MKINI reported that: Kalsom, the wife of ACA chief Shafee Yahya, wrote that Anwar was initially to have been charged with influencing Shafee to close the investigations against Azmin, but the charge was not eventually included.

Why he was not charged was not explained but Mrs Shafee Yahya did assert that "Anwar was initially to have been charged with influencing Shafee to close the investigations against Azmin ...".

Now, RPK is prepared to return to Malaysia to face charges of violating the OSA (in exposing the ACA/MACC file on Azmin Ali) if the government charges the pseudo Crown Prince with corruption as notated in the ACA file.

For us laypeople, especially Pakatan supporters, it's so easy and pathetic to just argue that whatever RPK's revelation has been about, the vote is still for Anwar and Azmin. Doesn't such an obdurate stand say much about the intelligence and political maturity of the one who has argued so, and the lack of understanding of the ABU concept.

The most worrying outcome of such a mindless moronic Myrmidon-ish mentality is that we should now be prepared for another 52 years of abuses, regardless of which coalition (BN or Pakatan) wins the GE-13.

So, Abu-nites, Quo Vadis (Whither goest thou)?

Surely, as someone under the nick of JK said over at Malaysia-Today:

When I cast my vote for Pakatan, its not because Anwar is the opposition leader. I cast my vote so that there is a change in government and in the process let's hope they elect a good PM.

I'll cast my for Pakatan but I don't want Anwar to be the PM. There are so many potential PM material leaders out there, why must it always be Anwar?

Okay, let's leave out the Chinese and Indian (not including Indian Muslims though, wakakaka) - sorry Karpal Bai and Uncle Lim.

But what about Pakatan luminaries such as my fave PAS person, Nizar Jamaluddin, who is now targeted by BN and its apparatus?

What about PAS' Mat Sabu, PKR's Khalid Ibrahim, or even Zaid Ibrahim (let's bring him back again into Pakatan)?

Or, what about a compromise candidate like Mohd Ariff Sabri from DAP wakakaka? Who says DAP can only offer Chinese or Indian candidates?

Alas, pity Venerable Tunku Aziz has 'retired'.

With so many qualified candidates for PM, why use damaged goods?

If Pakatan cannot think laterally and mindlessly, moronically, Myrmidon-ishly insist on AI (or God forbid, AA), then fuck ABU (or ABU is fucked).

So, with apologies to Bill Shakespeare, I leave you this:

To ABU, or not to ABU: that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them?

Can Anwar Ibrahim ever sacrifice Azmin Ali?

The Malaysian InsiderPakatan to use joint manifesto, says Azmin

This bloke has a known HABIT of issuing press statements to present other Pakatan allies like DAP and PAS with fait accompli favourable to PKR so much so I don't believe him whenever he claims to speak on behalf of Pakatan.

For example, he said:

The Presidential Council [of Pakatan] has set a guideline on seat allocation and in the spirit of co-operation there will be a straight fight between PR and Barisan Nasional. We decided that there will be no bargaining for seats won by any component party.

Now, we are well aware that PKR has been under pressure to 'surrender' those state and federal seats won by its created frogs. Obviously the bloke is stating 'hands off' to seats like (just a few examples, and there are more) Changkat Jering and Behrang state seats and the Bagan Serai parliamentary seat in Perak.

PAS has made a bid to contest these three in the next general election. Perak PAS deputy commissioner Mohd Misbahul Munir argued that  Pakatan would have a better chance to retain the seats if PAS candidates were fielded wakakaka, and he probably has a point given the frogological (opportunistic) nature of some PKR candidates.

Mohd Misbahul said the party had raised the matter with the state Pakatan Rakyat committee “to respect the wishes of the grassroots in the area”, whatever he meant by ‘respect the wishes of the grassroots in the area’ wakakaka.

Mohd Misbahul also said PAS would leave the decision to the Pakatan supreme council.

Of course Perak PKR vice-chairman Chang Lih Kang told PAS to pordah, asserting that seat negotiation among Pakatan component parties in the state had been concluded, with PKR allocated Changkat Jering, Behrang and Bagan Serai seats.

Effectively, both are saying the same thing, that the Pakatan supreme council should decide (or already have). And what was that decision? Alas, still Top Secret lah wakakaka.

Somehow the declaration by ‘that bloke’ wakakaka that there will be no bargaining for seats won by any component party sounded very unilateral, a suspicion not completely unfounded given his known HABIT of presenting fait accompli (so he hopes) to Pakatan allies with his media statements, like his humongous grab for PKR in the last Sarawak state election but with abysmal results wakakaka, and ...

... Nurul Izzah's surprisingly selfish statement that PKR intends on holding to approximately 52 of that state's 71 seats - for background on this, read my last year's post Sarawak CM Taib can thank Azmin Ali for saving his hide.

To my mind, Pakatan joint statements should only be made in the presence of at least a member from each ally-party, and not by manmanlai junior alone. Who the f* is he anyway in the Pakatan scheme of things?

While on 'that bloke' I refer to CT Ali's article in Free Malaysia Today (FMT) titled Anwar must decide on Azmin.

Incidentally, CT Ali is a reformist who believes in Pakatan Rakyat’s ideologies and works at FMT as a columnist. He wrote:

Our nation bleeds copiously from the wounds inflicted upon it by those who think themselves fit to be leaders of this country of ours.
Wounds inflicted upon our nation by pretenders to the thrones and who are at best, suffering from delusions of grandeur as a result of their inability to comprehend their own self worth.
Many walk the corridors of powers in Putrajaya where Barisan Nasional rules and some walk the alleyways in Penang, Kedah, Kelantan and Selangor – states that Pakatan Rakyat now rule. Some have the audacity to think themselves crown prince of the realm they are now in, Menteri Besar-designate of the state their party now controls and some imagine themselves future ministers in a Pakatan Rakyat government.
One of these upstarts that I speak of is Azmin Ali from PKR. The same Azmin that seems to have an almost magical hold over Anwar Ibrahim. The same Azmin who today is the target of gutter politics directed yet again at PKR.
And in all of this, Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim choses to stand clear as his nemesis inches towards his own end. “Ahhhh” said Khalid, “retribution has finally comes to those that had seek my demise earlier – God is truly great”!

At the beginning of this post I stated 'PKR has been under pressure to 'surrender' those state and federal seats won by its created frogs'. What do I mean by 'its created frogs', where I included tadpoles as well - where tadpoles are former PKR members who do not hold any state or federal seats when they left.

Obviously I'm referring to people like Gobala, Nallakaruppan, Ezam, Zaid, Abdul Rahman, Johari, Jonson Chong, etc. Perhaps I'm unkind to some of them by classifying them as frogs or tadpoles in that they left not because they wish to be in BN (some are NOT in BN where they are in fact against BN while admittedly some like Ezam and Nalla have joined BN), but I would say most left because of Azmin Ali and his unusual strong (even overpowering) influence over Anwar Ibrahim - hence PKR 'created' its own frogs.

CT Ali further wrote:

I have never been one for gutter politics because there is a bit of that ‘gutter’ factor in everyone of us – lest the same is directed towards our ownselves as all it takes is for someone to dig deep enough and all will be revealed. But what if ‘gutter politics’ reveals the unsuitability of Azmin to be a leader within PKR and of Selangor?
Rahim Thambi Chik was never convicted of being a paedophile but he was ousted as Chief Minister of Malacca because the evidence against him overwhelmingly convicted him in the eyes of the public so much so that even Umno had to bow down to the inevitable and agreed that he had to go.
And now Azmin is confronted with the same situation with the allegations of sexual impropriety with a woman who is not his wife.
The YouTube re Anwar and Azmin’s antics at Bersih 3.0 had 600,000 hits within a few days of it being uploaded. Today it has over two million.
These are numbers Anwar cannot ignore and I would hazard an educated guess that by now Anwar is also faced with the same pressure on the video re Azmin situation. You can line up all the usual suspect to back up Azmin position within PKR but there is no denying that if public opinion is to be considered, this is the time for Anwar to decide how PKR can be rid of Azmin.

He made a telling observation:

That Azmin and Anwar are leaders of PKR speak volumes of the maturity, or the lack of it, of those within PKR who have put up with these two leaders leading PKR from being the largest party within the opposition to become its weakest link at a time when Pakatan is facing its biggest challenge since its inception.

and he informs that for Anwar:
... there is no room for error, no room for friendship, no room for special consideration. Anwar only has time to do a surgical cut and rid PKR of Azmin once and for all, and then let PKR lick its wound and hope that he has done enough to save PKR from certain demise.

I once wrote I considered Azmin Ali as only a political midget whose greatest political achievement was to end Rosmah Mansoh's term as Chancellor of UNISEL earlier than scheduled, thus I would have like to conclude with an Amin to CT Ali's sound advice to Anwar, but alas, realistically speaking I doubt Anwar would, could ever get rid of Azmin, remembering the latter's 'magical hold' over the former wakakaka!

Racist and cowardly

MalaysiakiniGov't sues Ambiga, 9 others for Bersih 3.0 damage

The Najib Administration is now suing Bersih 3.0 chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan for RM122,000 in special damages caused during the Bersih 3.0 protest on April 28.

However, it hasn't named National Laureate Samad Said, the co-chairperson of Bersih, 3.0 in the suit.

I mentioned in a previous post Prelude to final defence? that Malaysiakini columnist Mariam Mokhtar pointed out:

... more worrying than the theatrical harassment of Ambiga was the racial undertones where the 'people' organizing the harassments of Ambiga, whether on her role as Bersih leader or her support of LGBT movement, were careful not to harass Berish's Samad Said (national laureate) or LGBT supporter Marina Mahathir ...

The government's demon-ization of an Indian Malaysian while 'acting dunno' about well-known Malay Malaysian personalities like Samad Said and Marina Mahathir is not only racist but cowardly.

But then, racists are known to be cowards.

Towering Malaysians, Towering Tales

Paul Joseph Goebbels seems to be everywhere these days - the Malaysian 'Goebbels' I mean.

At Merlimau, the perpetrators have become the victims, pelting DAP people in a car with stones only BECAUSE they claimed or more correctly, fabricated that the DAP car knocked some of the Perkasa-UMNO people down.

Not plausible? OK then, how about Perkasa-UMNO not doing any such pelting but rather someone else who wanted innocent Perkasa-UMNO to look bad?

Think kaytee is joking? No, our remarkable Ibrahim Ali has just claimed in Malaysiakini's 'Eggs and stones thrown to sabotage Perkasa, Umno' that "... The throwing of eggs and stones at an event for Bersih co-chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan in Merlimau, Malacca, last Saturday was an attempt by certain quarters to sabotage Perkasa and Umno".

Of course!

But the above remind me of the cop at a road block who kicked a young boy down from his motorcycle (and injured him badly) because he (the cop) claimed  .......... (fill in the blank).

They also remind me of the police claiming 14-year old Aminulrasyid Amzah had viciously reversed his car to knock down a cop who was then forced to open fire with his sub-machine gun (and killed him).

And according to the MACC and the tame RCI, Teoh Beng Hock committed suicide on the eve of his wedding to a woman who was bearing his child, because of an alleged issue of his boss misusing RM2400.

Towering Malaysians, but totally incompetent, even at lying!

Prelude to final defence?

From Malaysiakini we read Mariam Mokhtar's When pseudo-Malays seek control which tells us (extract):

The Bersih 3.0 rally forced the worst out of the Umno Malays last week: there were supposedly Malay traders who offered free burgers despite bitterly complaining about loss of income; ex-soldiers flashing their flabby posteriors, making us glad they had left the service; a senior police officer who mocked the law by condoning protests opposite private homes; a defence minister who believes he is above the law and has probably planned his escape in a submarine which cannot submerge, and a formerly ‘respected’ senator who resigned from his party and now tells us to accept corrupt politicians.

Apparently those army veterans were not from the army but RELA. According to Mariam, each was paid RM50 to wriggle his arse - poor value for money lah wakakaka. And a big pordah for brazenly claiming to be army veterans.

But Mariam pointed out that more worrying than the theatrical harassment of Ambiga was the racial undertones where the 'people' organizing the harassments of Ambiga, whether on her role as Bersih leader or her support of LGBT movement, were careful not to harass Berish's Samad Said (national laureate) or LGBT supporter Marina Mahathir.

Mariam also highlighted the antics of Alam Warisan president Azam Moktar at the anti-LGBT rally, where he blamed the 'immigrant ethnicities' (meaning Indians and Chinese) for trying to change Malaysian social values and for 'trying to set fire in Malaysia'.

Reminiscent of Najib and cousin Hishamuddin's keris waving proclivities, Azam Miktar, clad in traditional Malay garb, declared: “Today I withhold this keris. But if one day I can't tolerate any more, I will use the keris against the enemy of this land!”

Mariam scoffed at the irony of ethnic heroes in the cabinet as more peddlers of rancid curries and eaters of tempeh. But nonetheless they're employing the standard formula for rallying the heartland to the UMNO banner, to defend Tanah Melayu against the 'immigrant ethnicities'.

Thus, with all these demagogueries or racial blaming and harassments of Ambiga and the 'immigrant ethnicities' crescendoing daily, including acts of violence such as the Merlimau incident, we need to ask where they will eventually take us to?

I don't mean to be an alarmist but I cannot help but read into them sinister shades of a repeat of Tun Razak's pre coup d’état scenario, the escape route for an UMNO facing dire defeat in an election.

Thus, I have to but ask, do these anti Bersih and anti 'immigrant ethnicities' demagogueries signal preparations for UMNO's 'final defence'?

Sex and Malaysians

Sex, sex, sex ...

Either we Malaysians are the sexiest people on this planet or we're just obsessed with sex.

We even have men and women from a certain political  party interested in seeing what lies at the inner reaches of an AirAsia stewardess short skirt. They believed they could see a 'tunnel' - for more see my 2007 post No light at end of UMNO 'Tunnel'.

Then there were some who were engrossed with a woman's menstruation. Not to be outdone, religious officers raided Zuok nightclub and then forced young women to urinate in front of their hot prying eyes, while one enterprising religious officer who caught a woman at a nightclub (for whatever) tried to force her to do a blowjob on him as a quid pro quo for silence on her 'crimes'.

Then there were cases of incest, the lowest of the low. The fucking slugs. And trust parliament to reduce the sentence for incest, would you believe it! ('would you believe it' was NOT a question but rather an emphasis on parliament unbelievably going easy on those slugs) - see my 2009 post Lawmakers too easy on incest!

Perhaps we could glean some related info from one bloke from Pasir Mas (he of the peh-pow generosity wakakaka) who advised all and sundry in 2008 that Old men still wanna have fun and declared: “… there would be fewer marital problems and a lower divorce rate if Muslim women were taught to accept polygamy.”

Ibrahim was responding to PKR's Fuziah Salleh who questioned the qualifications of Syariah Court counsellors. She revealed that whenever there were marital problems, the women were blamed and forced to take the blame.

Peh-Pow said: "Such problems happen because women cannot accept polygamy. From a preventive point of view, what about doing a big campaign so that women can accept polygamy?"

He elaborated that women don’t realize that the … er … fun stops for husbands when those women become pregnant or when they hit their 50s - for more, read my 2008 post Ibrahim Ali said 50-year old women no longer fun.

Also in Kelantan in 2006, deputy mufti Datuk Mohamad Shukri Mohamad informed Berita Harian about Section 128 (1) of the Kelantan Islamic Law Enactment 2002, where Muslim wives would be deemed to be unjust and abusive if they cannot satisfy their husbands' sexual needs.

He warned: “Thus wives who do not provide proper care for their husbands, including not fulfilling their sexual needs, can be considered as being unjust and abusive towards their husbands.”

“These women can be charged under Section 128 (1) of the Kelantan Islamic Law Enactment 2002.”

No doubt he became an instant hero to hubbies wakakaka. So it's hardly surprising that some ulama-politicians constantly harped on issues of sex – whether it’s about:

(a) some bizarre suggestions to prevent sex crimes like the use of chastity belts, and once a PAS’ proposal to train women to be martial artists, or

(2) blaming women for being responsible for arousing men (eg. lipstick, perfume, gatal divorcees, dressing, gyrating Indonesian singer).

Meanwhile in West Peninsula, in Langkawi, snoop squads raided the hotel room of an elderly American tourist couple who had earlier sailed in on their own yacht. The wife was so traumatised by the experience she flew home immediately to USA.

Of course we have our infamous Sodomy I and II, and rendezvous at Hadyaai and 'crunching on a couch'. And our opposition and ruling party ministers have their sexual preferences, including pinching the bottom of bar hostess. Worst, Indonesian maids are not safe too.

I have even heard of salacious stories allegedly about Dr Mahathir, yes, Dr Mahathir. And also about a gambling king and his provision of Chinese virgin twins wakakaka - BTW, are there still virgins in Malaysia, let alone twin ones? wakakaka.

Then there were stories about escapades at Port Dickson and Kenny Hills too.

And we were told by a private eye of the sexual preferences of a dead Mongolian model, that she liked it in the back.

One bloke wanted Valentine's Day banned because he feared sexual orgies galore on that day of love - I only wish wakakaka. He believed (maybe still does) that the word 'love' could only mean sex, sex, sex - for more (information, not sex wakakaka) see my post Valentine's Day's wild sex romps & orgies.

Now a minister in the PM Department tells us that Jakim is worried about the book of liberal Islamic activist, Irshad Manji, titled 'Islam, Liberty and Love' - presumably because of the word 'Love' being there wakakaka.

Once, Putrajaya's Islamic Department set up an Islamic Snoop Squad or official peeping Toms.

And in 2007 in Terengganu, the UMNO state government initiated an ‘ingenious’ plan ('ingenious' as reported by Star Online, wakakaka) where Mat Skoding’s or spies will be recruited from locals to tip-off the state religious department of immoral activities, like cases of close proximity and vice, essentially peeping Toms too - for more see my 2007 post Mat Skoding - bounty hunters for gatal females.

The police, not to be left out, had Squatgate where a policeman illegally took photos of a naked woman doing ear squats in a cell (under directions from 'Ilse Koch'). In another case one of their members made salacious sexual gestures to a Malaysian wife who was wrongly arrested because she looked like a China doll - the policeman's gestures indicated his admiration of her breast with a suggestion to get together.

Recently, a sweetie was alleged to have been paid millions of ringgit for 4 months of cohabitation collaboration with a minister.

Latest we are hearing is about the claim of new anti-Pakatan NGO, Tibai, that a Pakatan leader had flirted with a male university student and sought his nude photo.

Oh, just be careful with the spelling and pronunciation of the NGO's acronym wakakaka, because you could well be accused of speaking (or saying) the truth wakakaka again.

Or, perhaps some Malaysians are sex pervs (perverts) wakakaka, always wanting to pry (excuse that pun wakakaka).

Why not rojak?

MalaysiakiniThosaimen 1, Buttmen and Burgermen 0

First there was beef burger, the height of religious-racist insult to sweetie Ambiga Sreenevasan. Ikhlas, a group claiming to represent some pro UMNO hawkers apparently abandoned their usual rancid curry trade to run the burger insult.

Sweetie kept her cool.

Then there was the disgusting bunch of baboons showing off their asses. Where will the Royal Malaysian Army out its face? Right on the red ass?

Sweetie not only kept her cool but offered cool drinks to the bums.

In reciprocation, NGO WargaAman wanted to open a thosai stall in front of the deputy IGP's house.

size of the thosai I had in New Delhi wakakaka

The deputy IGP had infuriated WargaAman when he showed his pro Ikhlas (or rather, pro UMNO) attitude in not taking any action to protect Ambiga's privacy.

UMNO Youth Chief Khairy Jamaluddin warned that the ridiculous may next see koay teow in front of the PM's residence.

Burgers, butts, thosai, koay teow - all these don't quite reflect Malaysia and Malaysians.

I recommend rojak, preferably Penang rojak which is quintessentially Malaysian, and where its contents/ingredients also reflect our Malaysian-ness.

But I'll be happy with pasembur wakakaka.

MCA true to form in Lynas?

Recently RPK pinpoint 3 major issues or problems for Najib in the coming elections, which the PM should resolve or face the consequences of adverse public (voters) reaction. One of Najib's problems was mentioned as Lynas.

Apparently poor Najib inherited those problems but as the saying goes, with authority/power comes the sh*t as well - excuse kaytee for substituting 'responsibility' with a scatological replacement wakakaka, because the new word fits the headache Lynas is giving the PM.

RPK also regaled us with insider's knowledge on why Najib has found it virtually impossible to stop Lynas unless he is prepared to dole out billions of ringgit in compensation for contractual breach.

Needless to say, as per the well-known standard modus operandi of BN, the component parties have to not only toe the coalition line but support Tai-Koe as well. No independent thinking or conscionable action would be permitted for lesser parties.

Some time ago, our dear remarkable MCA in the amazing person of deputy president Liow ‘my beloved PM’ Tiong LIE proposed setting up a National Committee on Rare Earth issues to supervise the Lynas Advanced Materials Plant (LAMP) in Gebeng.

'Wunderbar Kid and beloved by UMNO' Liow (he of ‘my beloved PM’ fame) roped in the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Hua Zong) and seven other Chinese associations, to form a committee which would collect and convey the public’s views to the International Trade and Industry Ministry, the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry, and the National Economic Action Council.

Good boy!

But alamak, PKR sweetie Fuziah Salleh gave Liow (and MCA) the pordah, stating “That message is stop Lynas, not supervise LAMP. By setting up this supervisory committee, MCA is trying to show that it is the champions of the rakyat. But it is making a fool of the rakyat’s intelligence and concerns.”

Sweetie also excoriated Liow for enlisting only Chinese associations and ignoring the Malay communities in Balok and Gebeng, all of whom have concerns over LAMP as well.

She taruh Liow kau kau, “Are the lives and well-being of the Chinese community more important to the MCA than that of other communities. This reflects the typical BN chauvinistic thinking and a crude example of its divide-and-rule mindset.”

Dearest Fuziah, at this stage with your sweet permission, maybe I ought to provide an excuse for MCA. Liow (beloved by UMNO) could only get those it had enlisted (and they bloody well 'participate', of course for the good of UMNOthe nation) because no one else would bother to listen to  him. So please cut him some slack wakakaka.

Anyway, sticking to their principal role of always supporting Tai-Koe, we have just read in The Malaysian Insider (TMI) 2 days ago that MCA suspends Pahang youth leader over anti-Lynas stand. The TMI report said:

The MCA disciplinary board has suspended Indera Mahkota Youth chief David Choi for three years over his open criticism of the Lynas rare earth refinery, Sin Chew Daily reported today.

The disciplinary board hauled Choi up for his deviation from the official party stand on the Lynas rare earth plant issue.

Poor bloke, didn't he know that SOP doesn't permit independent thinking or conscionable action by lesser parties?

TMI photo

At the hearing, Choi was also asked to explain other complaints against him for breaching disciplinary rules, including repeatedly harming the reputation of MCA Indera Mahkota division chief Pang Tsu Ming.

U Must Not Oppose party policy. Don't ever harm the reputation of MCA; it's okay with the health of residents in Gebeng but never ever the reputation of MCA.

“Although it has been decided that his membership has been suspended for three years, he can still appeal,” disciplinary board chairman Tan Sri Michael Chen told the newspaper.

When contacted by the newspaper, Choi said that he has not received news of his suspension.

MCA Pahang chief Datuk Ho Khai Mun was similarly in the dark when contacted by Sin Chew to clarify.

On second thoughts, perhaps the above meant that the suspension was only a sandiwara to placate Tai-Koe? wakakaka.

I hope 'my beloved PM' won't be unduly flustered by some young MCA members holding an anti-Lynas demonstration. Maybe we are living in LynasLewis Carroll's Wonderland where like the Cheshire ChoiCat which couldn't be beheaded by the Queen, everything was a dream of the Red King and no more than a figment of his imagination wakakaka.

DAP's comedy (or tragedy) of errors with Tunku Aziz

The Chinese (Penang Hokkien) equivalent of the Malay word biadap is boe kar see, meaning ‘not taught proper manners’ (obviously by parents and/or elders of the one scolded). The full Penang Hokkien term in fact is beh-boe* [parents] boe-kar-see.

* note the ‘boe’ in parents is in the 4th tone whilst the one in ‘not taught proper manners’ is in the 3rd tone

Both Malay and Chinese terms are very damning, excoriating not just the one scolded but particularly the parents for not teaching their child proper manners. The Chinese consider such a description as a very serious insult.

I wrote on this insult in a previous post Gerakan Party insults Chinese, as follows:

Just a quick intro to what I have to say about Gerakan's hurtful words - The second most hurtful comment against a Chinese is ‘boe kar see’ or kurang ajar
(or biadap), because that reflects more on the person’s parents for not bringing up the person correctly. And a typical Chinese most certainly doesn't want his/her parents criticized in that manner.

As Confucius instructed:
The superior man, while his parents are alive, reverently nourishes them; and, when they are dead, reverently sacrifices to them. His thought to the end of his life is how not to disgrace them.

But the most hurtful comment against a Chinese is ….. the terrible term ‘harm kar ch’arn’, a curse meaning (words to the effect) that ‘may your family line be extinguished forever’.

When Tunku Aziz described Lim GE as biadap, he was not just scolding the son but Lim Kit Siang, the father as well. I wonder whether Tunku had realized that, considering he had in that same session when he insulted Lim Junior, ironically also reaffirmed his friendship with Lim Senior?

Look, we Asians are particularly sensitive to the tone, undercurrents, subtext and the real feelings and cause of such a damning insult to at least two generations of Lim’s. Thus I shall attempt to emulate Josh Hong and provide some thoughts on the why’s and wherefore’s of Tunku’s unusual outburst.

For a start, 78 year old Tunku must have considered himself a senior statesman (regardless of his DAP membership), and mind you, I do support his self-evaluated political worth.

Thus, he felt he had the rights to issue advice on what he saw (then) as an impending violation of the law by the Bersih participants. Again, I have to say I did support that prediction as I had written in another post Bersih - "Uncle okay?", Auntie is okay! the following:

Pakatan leaders, Anwar Ibrahim, Hadi Awang & Lim Kit Siang and their senior lieutenants, must allow Bersih to be seen clearly by the Malaysian public as a non-Pakatan affiliated movement for clean and fair elections, and deserving of support by ALL concerned citizens, thus these Pakatan leaders, while supporting Bersih, must remain in the publicity background and not selfishly hijack the rally for their own political interests.

Tunku obviously knew who the troublemakers were, wakakaka, and of course as the senior statesman he considered himself to be, he must have believed that unlike the average party hoi polloi, he would be allowed some latitude to express his advice.

But alas, Lim GE as the DAP sec-gen had no choice but to show solidarity with Pakatan which was supporting Bersih. So he had to publicly chide Tunku for not being in line with Pakatan policy on the campaign.

For such a person as 78 year old Tunku to be chided in public by a relatively young chico was really too much. He would have already been quietly fuming at Lim’s biadap-ness.

The straw that broke his quiet tolerance was the offer of a fellowship and the mentioning of the associated stipend, both of which would be seen (by a man like Tunku) as grossly tacky (and thus insulting) consolation prizes.

According to Malaysiakini’s Guan Eng declines to counter-attack Tunku Aziz:

Penang Institute chief executive officer Zairil Mohd Khir has expressed regret that his offer of a senior fellowship to Tunku Aziz had been “misconstrued”.

Zairil said when it became clear that Tunku Aziz did not wish to be re-nominated for another term as a senator, the institute saw it as an opportunity to recruit a public intellectual with a valuable global network.

Zairil, who is political secretary to the chief minister, added that the post offered to Tunku Aziz comes with a standard package for senior fellowship that includes a yearly stipend of RM50,000. […]

“Out of respect for Tunku Aziz’s position as a senior figure, we requested the Penang chief minister, who is also the chairperson of Penang Institute, to convey our offer of a senior fellowship,” he said.

“At no time did the chief minister speak about the terms of the appointment or any financial details during their telephone conversation last Friday,” he added.

“The terms of the senior fellowship were only conveyed by me on Monday morning to Tunku Aziz when I followed-up on the chief minister’s call,” he stressed.

Zairil said as a think-tank, the job offered to Tunku Aziz entailed writing research papers and attending conferences overseas, denying that “travel” was a bait to persuade the latter to accept the job. […]

Zairil expressed regret that the institute’s enthusiasm to have Tunku Aziz on board by requesting the chief minister to convey its offer has not only been misconstrued to justify his leaving the party, but also “used to malign” Lim.

He added that the offer was not meant to be compensation for his senatorship, but in fact a genuine offer based on a desire to make the best use of Tunku Aziz’s talent in the service of the state after his retirement as a senator.

But Tunku saw it differently as he was, as mentioned above, already smarting from the public chiding by a young chico, and perhaps even at the DAP’s failure to ‘persuade’ him from withdrawing from a second term as senator.

We Asians should be aware that senior people like to be ‘persuaded’ to stay on in office, even and especially when they offer to withdraw or resign (not unlike Dr Mahathir wakakaka). So I suspect when DAP failed to show proper due 'respect' by insisting, persuading, begging him to do a second term as a senator, he must have felt terribly hurt – perasaan tersinggung sangat!

When the fellowship offer came via that ‘ill-mannered’ young chico, Tunku must have felt mightily insulted, and the straw finally broke his back when Zairil rang him up to mention the stipend.

It was just too much for a man like him to accept (what he saw as) insult after insult after insult. He cried out in agony: “Did he think I was that kind of person? This man has no sense of decency. The only word is a Malay word, and it’s ‘biadap’”.

Well, not exactly for as mentioned, there’s also the Chinese equivalent term of boe kar see, but I doubt Tunku would be interested in that right now, wakakaka.

Anyway, regardless of the cross lines and incorrect trans-generational interpretations, basically a comedy (or tragedy) of errors on both sides, the harm in fact has already been done much earlier when Lim Junior chided him publicly.

Tunku is not unlike Dr Rama where both want respect due to their elderly and senior status, though of course their problems with the DAP leadership were caused by different issues. If you recall, Dr Rama had also threatened to resign rather than apologize for whatever he was accused of, seeing in the whole affair as a lack of respect for him.

I suppose we can term both as prima donnas wakakaka. Nonetheless, I feel rather sad that Tunku has decided to end his association with DAP and in particular Lim GE in such an acrimonious manner.

But I am glad that Guan Eng has firmly closed the issue in a gracious manner.

More of Tunku Aziz, and less of wannabe Che Guevera

Malaysiakini DAP wants Tunku Abdul Aziz to stay

Absolute correct decision by Lim Guan Eng!

Tunku's disagreement was not with the concept of Bersih - in fact he supported it - but with the conduct of the protest. He didn't support the insistence of Bersih to gather at Dataran Merdeka because it would have been an act of defiance against the law, no matter how bad the law was.

To understand a law-abiding man like Tunku, one only has to read Josh Hong’s brilliant analysis of the man in Malaysiakini’s Tunku Aziz and the Dewan Negara.

Hong eruditely provided us with a glimpse of Tunku’s psyche when the man “… related how his father was a stickler for rules who would not tolerate it if his son cycled home without a lamp. This anecdote illustrates his father’s fastidious adherence to the rule of law that certainly has had a powerful impact on the Tunku’s future political understanding.”

“But the Tunku did (and still does) harbour political ambitions, perhaps not aspiring to be a government minister of sorts but at least to be able to effect policy changes to some extent. Umno, that is universally known to be corrupt to the core, was out of the question, leaving the DAP the only viable option.”

“Indeed, it would take an enormous amount of courage for someone with dignity and prestige as the Tunku to join Umno of the present days.”

“In some way, the DAP’s ideology matches that of the Tunku. When the left-wing forces were boycotting what they saw as sham elections in the 1960s, the DAP filled the vacuum by contesting in most of the winnable seats and becoming the largest opposition party in parliament, a position that it went on to hold for the next three decades.”

“Again, the party’s faith in what the leftists and socialists would describe as capitalist parliamentary democracy reflected that of the Tunku’s.”

Hong also explained why Tunku didn't bother to join PAS or PKR, especially the latter which Tunku probably viewed as “… made up of a bunch of rabble-rousers and law-breakers.” Wakakaka.

And wasn’t Tunku’s fears proven correct about Bersih likely to be abused to incite mindless morons to deliberately break the law?

That the police went unprofessionally berserk like hoodlums and attacked Bersih supporters doesn’t hide the fact that a number of Bersih participants (from a particular party) misbehaved. As Dina Zaman wrote in The Malaysian Insider’s The Bersih that wasn’t:

But now I see videos of protestors breaking down the barriers and committing acts of violence. And yes, while the police showed more restraint this time they were behind some of these as well. Al-Jazeera journalists reported via Skype that their equipment was smashed by policemen to prevent them recording some of these acts of violence.

Despite suffering from the teargas effects I myself have not the spirit to summon the moral indignation I would like to have, because although they should have done so lawfully I cannot blame the police for taking action against violent protestors.

What can we Malaysians expect post April 28 2012? With a video circulating showing that Anwar Ibrahim and Azmin Ali had ordered the Dataran breach, this does not bode well for Pakatan and the rakyat. This is a massive public relations disaster. The average Malaysian like me can only tear her hair out.

And now we are told that the duo were signalling to the police. What is this — Tonto and the Lone Ranger?

As I said on Twitter all this resembled a Hindustani film. Throw in a tree and a pair of sarees and we'll have a great sandiwara.

By contrast, Tunku’s brand of politics is like those practiced by Lim Kit Siang, Karpal Singh and Lim Guan Eng, where politicians in the finest tradition of Westminster parliamentary democracy debate in gentlemanly fashion issues pertaining to national policies rather than personalities, and certainly not bite policeman nor wear a flak jacket while rushing off to hide at the Turkish Embassy wakakaka.

Nor is Tunku the type to descend down to the grubby grim gutter to utter childish words like Mahakutty, Raja Buntot, Najlis, "I'll tell about what happened in Port Dickson", etc. Tunku was always a man who would ‘jaga standard’.

Unfortunately, thanks to UMNO (and its splintered clone) in the last 15 years, politics have become a conflict of personalities rather than policies. UMNO and their PKR clones keep amazing us with new depths of dirty poisonous politics, such as 50 dalil kenapa Anwar tidak boleh menjadi PM, Sodomy I and II, video of Rendezvous at Haadyai, mocked funeral for Altantuuyaa by PKR members wearing sack cloths in pretend mourning for a dead woman they in reality didn’t give a sh*t for, rejoicing in meaningless childish antics like ousting Rosmah Mansoh prematurely from completing her term in the honorary position as chancellor of a Selangor State university, etc etc etc.

I suspect there are some who have a Kafkaesque (wakakaka) infatuation with uprisings, student protests leading to change in government and revolts, preferably of the unarmed variety though not necessarily restricting or rejecting the ‘otherwise’.

Inspired no doubt by incidents such as Tiananmen Square protest, Lama Uprising in Tibet, Self Immolating Buddhist Monks in Vietnam, Students Protest in Indonesia, Myanmar Buddhist Monks protests, Rwanda’s Tutsis' fight-back, Thailand’s Red Shirts rally, etc, they probably would be fantasizing a more successful outcome for their own uprising.

The most recent such movement to capture their imagination has been what has come to be called the ‘Arab Spring’ movement.

Could it be to those infatuated, the process of the ballot box is deemed far too slow for their hungry ambitions, requiring unbearable years of modest incremental gains, or not flamboyantly explosive enough. Mesti ada style ler, and probably wistfully wishing that after their wannabe uprising has successfully overthrown the authority, they would be borne on the shoulders of supporters, preferably shielded by a yellow umbrella, into Putrajaya to claim the political throne, which of course they would ‘humbly’ accept wakakaka.

Yes indeed, there are some who, while screaming for democracy, whispers for revolt. Incongruous? Nay, only hypocritical convenience or convenient hypocrisy! The ultimate aim is to seize power, whatever it takes, whatever needs to be said, whatever flag has to be flown, or whatever frogs have to be enticed.

These people dream of being a successful Che Guevera. And Wikipedia has this to say of the iconic personality:

Guevara remains both a revered and reviled historical figure, polarized in the collective imagination in a multitude of biographies, memoirs, essays, documentaries, songs, and films. As a result of his perceived martyrdom, poetic invocations for class struggle, and desire to create the consciousness of a "new man" driven by moral rather than material incentives; he has evolved into a quintessential icon of various leftist-inspired movements. Time magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century, while an Alberto Korda photograph of him entitled Guerrillero Heroico, was cited by the Maryland Institute College of Art as "the most famous photograph in the world".

So iconic, so many accolades, so many superlatives – if he was Malaysian he would have been garlanded with the world’s biggest lei and borne aloft on the shoulders of our world-famous bodek-ites (& don't forget the yellow brolly too).

But our wannabe Che Guevera lacks the real semangat of a leader of mass struggle, a job already responsibly, diligently and painstakingly assumed (previously and currently) by people like Professor Syed Hussein al-Alatas, Wang Gungwu (Emeritus Prof of the Australian National University), Ahmad Boestamam, Kassim Ahmad, Dr Tan Chee Khoon, Lim Kean Siew, Dr. J.B.A. Peter, Veerapan, Lee Lam Thye, Karpal Singh, Lim Kit Siang, Lim Guan Eng, Dr Jeya (PSM), etc.

What we have in our modern wannabe Che Guevera are those who love to say ‘CHARGE’ but would be nowhere in front. I would call them not Che Guevera but rather Cheat Lu-Wira.

Thus we need more civil-minded gentleman politicians like Tunku Abdul Aziz. I hope he ignores those mindless moronic Myrmidon-ish and totally idiotic guttersnipe accusations in various interactive media portals at his resignation from DAP, and accepts DAP’s appeal for him to remain in the party.
