Teresa Kok arrested

So WTF, 3 hours after Sin Chew journalist Tan Hoon Cheng was detained under the ISA, the police did the same to Teresa Kok, the DAP MP for Seputeh.

This is outright outrageous to detain a Member of Parliament!

Read Malaysiakini early report ISA dragnet widens: MP Teresa Kok too, which I have reproduced below:

image from Teresa Kok's blog

DAP leader Teresa Kok has also been detained under the Internal Security Act - the third person to be detained without trial today.

It is learnt that the Selangor senior executive councillor and Seputeh parliamentarian was stopped by the police at about 11.18pm on her way back from a function in Kuala Lumpur.

She was arrested after her vehicle was blocked by three police patrol cars.

Deputy inspector-general of police Ismail Omar said that Kok's arrest was made under Section 73(1) of the Act.

In Penang, chief minister and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said the party would be holding an emergency meeting tomorrow to discuss the matter.

Earlier today, Malaysia Today editor Raja Petra Kamaruddin and Sin Chew Daily journalist Tan Hoon Cheng were also arrested under the Act.

  5. KT,

I know you got irked by the DAP pragmatically endorsing the frogs...

but to me... I think this is just too much... just too much...

But on the bright side... Teresa Kok can now be called former ISA detainee...

  6. Perhaps now you will realise the evil that you have been supporting by being so anti-DSAI.

Ahmad Ismail gets away with a slap on th ewrist. Toyo is running free and wild. And so they play the man and not the ball by arresting RPK, The Sin Chew and strangest of all, Teresa Kok who did aboslutely nothing in the 'azan sabotage' issue to justify any kind of criticism or arrest.

Better DSAI than anyone from the other side.

  7. donplaypuks, even tho' I am a DAP supporter (tho' not a member) I am still against Anwar (but not PKR) - sorry, I don't trust him. In fact, I blame him for all these.

Anwar Ibrahim can be credited as the spark as well as the catalyst for both Ops Lallang's.

  8. So KT,
isn't this is what you want? Hail UMNO, thanks to your 'persuasive' articles, I now believed that what the 'gomen' and police are doing are absolutely justified. Thank you so much KT.

  9. Well this appears to be a warning signs to politicians and political parties to lay off sensitive issues.

If BN wanted to crush dissent, then Uncle Lim and Ustaz Anwar would be the first to get the calls from SB.

The choice of victims appears to be rather misguided, I fail to see any logical reasoning behind it. Whoever decided on the persons to be arrested bungled badly.

In my books Ahmad and Zulkifli Nordin should the first to be given the honours.

  16. Folks

Make no mistake, I am not against ISA. It has its uses for sure. Unlike some, I am a pragmatist and do not believe in the utopian concept of democracy and human rights. The legal process is not fool-proof or perfect and the ruling govt should be accorded certain discretionary powers to act in case of threats to public security and safety. While this could potentially abused, the same could be said of the legal process where the innocents get punished while child rapists and mass murderers get scot free.

At the end of the day, the govt is accountable for its action and people will judge come the election day.

In fact as I mentioned before, I was one of those who unwittingly started off the racial tensions that eventually ended in Operasi Lalang in 1987. At that time, I was shocked at the extend that an issue could develop into such an emotive controversy. When Operasi Lalang came, I was actually relieved. Though it did also net some politicians (thanks to Anwar), I didn't mind. The operation had its purpose and did cool the ethnic temperature down at that time.

A lot of people today talk about Operasi Lalang without understanding the historical context or what it is all about. They think it was a political purge against the Opposition. They are wrong.

But I have to concur with KT here, Anwar is the catalyst for this blitz. When you push a cornered animal, it will fight back. If you justify the employment of unethical tactics, your opponent will also rationalise that end justifies the mean and react accordingly.

  17. What has happened smells very familiar... It smells like the work of someone who has done it many times before. Someone who has plenty to gain and nothing to loose... In fact it stinks of TDM's handywork to discredit Badawi. “Shit Head”-mid may have already been recruited by TDM to sabotage Badawi’s weakening administration. Ahmad Ismail’s racial spat with Gerakan and BN sets the right climate for TDM to exploit the rakyat’s anger and channel it to Badawi. My God, I hope he is awake to realize what is happening now.

The "war" has already begun. TDM’s group is burning the house down and won't care the fire is going to destroy the home and kill some of its inhabitants. We MUST reject all UMNO politicians no matter which side they are on. They care for no one but themselves.

Yes protest if we must! Send protest notes to all the BN component parties and get them to abandon BN NOW! Let TDM and Badawi fight between themselves. They should NOT involve the rest of the country in their tussle to lead a dying dynasty. REJECT UMNO!!!

  18. KT, you know something ? you all have been taken for a ride. You played right into those bastards hands.
What happen to the "give me liberty or give me death"
You have the pen now and start writing on this democratic government you loooved so.. much...!
You see the government has warped minds and now like a wounded animal with its day numbered the super ISA icing is used on innocent people.
Give me the Devil incarnate now and i 'll choose him over those umno bastards and bn lapdogs.
We all are going to be detained under ISA anyway cause it has lost its value soon.
It's time you whack arses now! or else you 'll end up pussying to that desperate bodowi.

  20. Just looking at the mindless ranting and rambling of the anwaristas here, one would think that the BN govt has hanged the entire PR leadership and declared a state of emergency.

This episode clearly demonstrate why we SHOULD NOT allow unethical and undemocratic attempts to topple the BN govt. This will only push the BN govt to respond using the weapons in its arsenal to fight back. Whatever the outcome, the losers will be the rakyat.

Also it is stupid to claim that ISA has been used for political purposes. If that is the intention, then I am sure Anwar and his fellow PR leaders will be checking in to Hilton Kamunting by now.

PDRM has blundered in applying ISA in a selective manner but the blame should also must be shared by Anwar and his fellow katakcrats for pushing BN into a corner.

    ReplyDelete
  21. If it were the case that by pushing BN into a corner there was only one possible reaction-fine, Anwar can take some blame, but let us not kid ourselves here. Anwar (reprehensible hypocrite as he is to me) is not to blame for BN's reaction given that they could react in a myriad of ways. They could for example, have tried to get their house in order, to reform, to change their leadership, to change tack etc...

One option was to do what they did-ONE OPTION. Anwar did not make them choose that option-they did it themselves. Whether we like Anwar or not is at this moment in time, immaterial. Whether he is using us or not is also immaterial for as far as I am concerned I am now happy to use Anwar to get more freedom for all Malaysians. I use him and he uses me-if that means he gets into power and achieves his dream of becoming a god-man but in return has to give us our freedoms then so be it.

What is clear is that the BN will never grant us that-Anwar at least has yet to be given the opportunity to deny us that. So I am putting my principles aside and am supporting rank hypocrites and kataks and wish them every success in their endeavour to destroy this reprehensible government, even if they are doing ot for their own selfish self-interests. It just so happens to coincide with mine at this moment...

  22. killer

Don't you think BN allow itself to be stabbed? This UMNO bugger tried to be a Hero and of course they take a mild action which is bteer than PKR which has yet to take action on Zul. Suppose to be End of story. But suddenly they use ISA on the journalist and DAP member. Can BN component parties stomach such draconian acts? Directly will UMNO force or give good reasons to force Gerakan,MCA, SAPP and others to leave BN and UMNO stand on its own?

    ReplyDelete
  23. anon 11.19am

If DAP and PAS can tolerate Anwar's unethical and undemocratic tactics to seize power and undermine BN, I don't see why BN's component parties would leave the coalition and join an ever more immoral pack of pirates called PR.

It is kind of funny that anwaristas so quick to blame BN for using ISA but yet support equally (if not worse) undemocratic concept of Katakcracy.

Many people who are against Anwar (like KT and myself) do not condone the use of ISA on journalists or MPs. We are also equally opposed to Katakcracy. on the otherhand, anwaristas and katakcrats are adopting "close one-eye" principle in cheerleading the Great Snake Oil Salesman.

  24. Lets not look at face value.

Will the ISA maneuver benefit UNMO? I think it is more likely to weaken BN further. Why then, make this disadvantageous move and at this particular time when BN government is threaten by the cross over to topple them by 916? Is AAB insane to plot his own downfall, or he know something that we don't know that the current deplorable measure is a preempt action to cool down and avoid some thing more serious. That bring me to the thought how Tungku was dethrone, the concern lately by the army chief and calling by UNMO leaders for Pak Lak to step down sooner rather than later. Is some body plotting some thing that history repeating itself. Well if that the case, then sorry lah to those detain, take it as good sacrifice to trade for peace.

However, what ever it may be, Anwar is responsible as he started the fire.

Mr Ktemoc cleverly steals Malaysiakin's breaking news , injects some anti Anwar poisons and sells the idea as his own inventions.

Thus infringing copyright & fakes his false intelligence.

Then he tells innocent readers that Anwar is the cause of all of Malaysia's problems !

  30. The 2006 article is exactly why we should not have any illusions about Anwar-but as far as I am concerned (and I am concerned!) the key now is to depose this government, and Anwar is at the moment the only viable vehicle to do that.

I really don't care at this juncture if he has changed his true intentions about non-Malays or not. What he thinks is irrelevant because what matters is what he does in the face of the compromises he has to make with people he may not like/agree with (say non-Malays if indeed he still holds a racist view).

We all make compromises in life, and given that Anwar is nowhere near powerful enough to be a dictator, he must have to compromise as well.

What we should ensure is that he does not become too powerful if and when he takes over. I do not forget his record when he was in government, and it is a frightening record.

Sure he may well be using the rakyat, but hey, we can use him too. Who says he is smarter than the rakyat? We should not place his intellect on a pedestal. Both Mahathir (1998) and Pairin (1994) outdid him after all.

Remember the real enemy!! And it is not Anwar.

  32. I hope we get our perception and priorities right . Lambasting MCA, MIC or Gerakan for this is way out . These political parties were caught in this unwanted mess and are also in a dilemma . They Do Not control the Military nor the Police . UMNO controls everything . Asking MCA or Gerakan will see the establishment of NOC immediately with UMNO in full control . What you are suggesting is exactly what they want . I am a politician and I read them very well . With MCA and Gerakan and other parties out of BN does not mean the end of UMNO , think carefully what I am saying . Thereis another party lying low key by the sides . MCA with the rest has only 18 or more seats . PAS has 26 seats . If they were to join UMNO , the Malays will have absolute control of the govt with more than two thirds majority . Five state governments under PR will be reduced to just one ie Penang . Kelantan , Kedah , Perak will all revert to UMNO/PAS govt. Selangor will still be with PKRwith one seat majority. You can consider that as gone also . You want this situation ot happen , than continue asking MCA and Gerakan to leave . The Malays will be the govt and the Chinese and Indian based parties will ALL be in the opposition .MCA and Gerakan has much to lose in this . Imagine a one man wrecking crew in Ahmad Ismail can deteriorate to this !! So what does that make him out to be ? Agent Provocator ?? Go figure out .

Do not simply follow what people post in the blogs . They may be having Chinese or Indian usernames but these people are all faceless . They may be PAS or UMNO supporters instigating young people to keep on asking the MCA and Gerakan to leave . Young people as they are not matured enough to see the overall picture . They only see the trees but not the forest .

Coming back to our issue on hand . The main culprit is UMNO . Direct all comments to UMNO .
UMNO has resorted to doing this as it has too many issues going and spinning out of control . To remain in power this is what happens . This has been forced into their hands . I had expected this to happen when they were denied two thirds majority immediately after the GE12 . But LOL it did not happen even though they lost two thirds majority and five state governments . If Mahathir had been the PM , that would have been it , Ops Lallang 2 followed up by NOC (emergency rule) .But Badawi didn’t do that . He gracefully accepted the defeat .
The catalyst or the person responsible for this is none other than Anwar Ibrahim . He doesn’t know when to tone down his rethorics or when to stop but instead continued day and night with his Sept 16 takeover thru katakcracy .
While the BN govt has legal and democratic mandate from the GE that was only held 6 mths ago, who gave these political hyenas the approval or right to topple the elected govt ?I think if we are to progress to a First World in terms of democracy, we need to start to respect and strengthen the instituitions of law and democracy rather than destroy them to suit his personal wishes.
Anwar and his cult failed to realise that the way of using undemocratic way to gain power is a double-edged sword. Even if he gains power by an act of political piracy, he will lose his moral ground (that is if he has one to begin with) and there is nothing that to stop BN from using similar tactics to undermine his rule. The end result will be a highly polarised nation with both sides willing to sacrifice democracy, law and ethics to achieve their goals. This will only mean that the country will be plunged to chaos and possibly a civil war that will destroy the nation.
5 states are held by the PR with a chance to showcase their accountable and transparent governance. This is the time to built up his team but he didn’t do that except with his personal obsession to topple the govt . Why can’t he wait until the next PRU ?
Ever since the last GE, the only thing that drives PR and Anwar is the quest for power. They have been continually engaged in a war of attrition with BN in undermining them using mostly undemocratic and unethical tactics. Their drama at the Parliament, the use of RPK, bloggers and various proxies in producing disgusting but baseless SDs had only succeeded in putting BN on the defensive and focus on protecting their positions rather than carrying the promised reforms. Much of the BN leadership’s energies are spent on countering political machinations of Anwar rather than ruling the nation.
Even the sodomy2 issue , if Anwar had not hired Saiful when told he was an UMNO mole , not promoted him on a fast track from worker to aide within 3 mths, not taken with him on his overseas tours , would sodomy2 have happen ? If he had been careful , with all those info about Saiful , so who’s to blame ? Himself or giving UMNO an opportunity to nail him ? Anwser is in my opinion HIMSELF ANWAR .
With UMNO now in this precarious position having internal disunity and calls for Badawi and Najip to set a sooner transition date and a possibility of being challenge by Tengku Razaleh and Muhyideen and 916 , this ISA arrest is to cushion all these problems within and from outside UMNO .
