Police has done it again

If what Parti Reformasi Insan Malaysia (Prim) pro-tem secretary-general P Uthayakumar said is true, then our world-famous police have done it again!

An Indian couple was forcefully dragged away by several men on some pretext. They bashed the husband and repeatedly raped the wife through the night. When the couple was eventually released the following day, they went to report the rape to the police in Brickfields.

Then our wonderful police did what we, knowing them, would have expected them to do. The police instead arrested them for overstaying in Malaysia and dumped them in the Sungai Buloh prison. Isn’t that just great?

Hellooooo – the couple have been the victims!

Subang Jaya police chief Muhd Fuad Taib said the couple were being held to facilitate investigations for overstaying. Yeah, overstaying is overstaying, and what bloody investigations could be so urgent or vital that they needed to be incarcerated when there has been a far greater crime perpetrated on them. Remember the rape? There would be a victim in a rape case, always, and wouldn't she needed medical attention and counselling?

What's wrong with the sense of priority in our police. Yes, the couple might have overstayed their visa BUT they went to seek police help for a far greater crime they had suffered. And instead they were jailed.

Uthayakumar was furious at not only the police but the local media for acting like 'don’t know’ ostriches. Well, that’s true, because our world famous local media would be more interested in sensational but politically non-controversial issues like one Lebanese whoever.

That the police, supposedly trained to handle rape cases, could be so clueless as to who has been the victim, and heartless in their treatment of her, it's just unbelievable! But should it be?

Afterall, Malaysia Boleh!
